This semester I took a Genetics class (biology) and learned so much. I'm grateful that I was able to expand my knowledge with my peers, and be guided by a great professor.
illustrated the cycle of PGD down below as my final project presentation.
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is an assisted reproductive technique to analysis embryos or oocytes for genetic defects in an early form of prenatal diagnosis. Most couples who involve themselves in PGD have Mendelian disorders that can be life-threatening. PGD tests for monogenic inheritance disorder “indirectly” so that the co-amplification of multiple short tandem repeat markers is linked to the mutant allele(s) near the gene locus (Sermon, Van Steirteghem, & Liebaers, 2004).
